On May 27, 2016 pro endurance athlete Colin O’Brady completed the Explorers Grand Slam in a world record shattering 139 days. Colin climbed the Seven Summits and skied the last degree to the North and South Poles, all in an effort to raise awareness and funds to inspire active, healthy kids in partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
  • Sometimes going down is harder than going up. This was taken on the descent off Denali last year after pushing for over 12 hours in a single round trip push from 14 camp to the summit and back, not to mention only 7 days removed from the Everest summit. It's never a successful climb until you are back down safely on the ground. .

  • On the summit ridge of Mt. Vinson, Antarctica's highest peak. I took my goggles off to snap this pic real quick. But even a few seconds with exposed skin in the -70 windchill that day was enough to have ice crystals forming on my eyelashes and eyebrows. I'm cold now just thinking about it! #Antarctica #mtvinson #vinson #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits
  • Climbing up one of the many ladders in the infamous Khumbu Icefall on Mt. Everest. I hope everyone climbing this season finds safe passage through this tenuous area. I found the Icefall to be enchanting in many ways, however there have been far too many lives lost in there to ever feel fully comfortable climbing through it. #Everest #Nepal #Himalayas #topoftheworld #Outdoor #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits
  • Spending the weekend down at sea level. Taking in this insane sunset at the Oregon Coast, while getting the creative juices flowing on some writing. 📷 @sirpnw #Oregon #oregoncoast #pacnw #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits #ted #tedxpdx
  • The top of Tunnel Mountain, Banff, CA. Not a bad spot to sit and take in the view with my lady @jennabesaw #Outdoor #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits #Canada #Banff
  • Progress can be slow on the way to the North Pole with cracking sea ice creating these pressure ridges and open leads. I set up my tripod and put my camera on a timer in the -40 degree temps to get this shot. #NorthPole #ExplorersGrandSlam #Outdoor #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits
  • The not so glamorous side of climbing Everest. I took this photo while stuck in a line climbing up the Lhotse Face. Many teams were moving up to Camp 4 on the same day, and this can spell disaster on the fixed ropes on summit day. The top of the world; a very unlikely place to find yourself in a traffic jam. #Everest #Nepal #Himalayas #8000m #summit #topoftheworld #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits
  • Tonight @outsidetelevision will be premiering the 22 minute film about my world record breaking journey. Check out the trailer here and tune in for the full version tonight at 930pm EST. Even though I lived this and shot most of the action footage myself, it's so much fun for me to watch it all back and relive some of the highest highs and lowest lows of my life. Thanks Jim Aikman @bedrockfilmworks for the excellent work on this piece and shoutout to @vetejas it's truly an honor to follow in your footsteps, you pushed me until the end. #Everest #Nepal #Himalayas #Outdoor #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits @outsidetelevision
  • Banff you treated me well. Time to head home to the beautiful Pacific NW, but I'll most certainly be back up here North of the border again soon! #Banff #Canada #lakelouise #canmore #Outdoor #explore #adventure #snow #ice #travel #wanderlust #climbing #climb #mountains #lifegoals #goBeyond #SevenSummits

BIOGRAPHY

Colin O’Brady was born in Olympia, Washington on March 16, 1985. The son of an Eagle Scout, Colin spent his childhood exploring the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest with his family. He learned about healthy living from his father, an organic farmer, and from his mother and stepfather, co-founders of a local, natural foods grocery chain.

Through passion, dedication, and hard work, Colin grew into a youth sports star. He won Oregon State Championships and received national honors in both swimming and soccer. Colin was recruited to swim at Yale University where he swam all four years.

During his time in college, Colin took a leave of absence to pursue a semester-long course with the National Outdoors Leadership School, mountaineering and kayaking in remote Patagonia, Chile. Later, while studying African economic development in college, he traveled to Tanzania, where he caught a glimpse of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. That day, a dream was born: to climb the Seven Summits.

In 2006, Colin graduated from Yale with a BA in economics. The day after graduation, he embarked on a 4000-mile cycling journey from Connecticut to Oregon, with the aim to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity.

Before beginning his career in finance, Colin left to explore the world on a backpacking trip. While in Thailand, Colin suffered a tragic accident and was severely burned in a fire. His injuries covered nearly 25% of his body, primarily damaging his legs and feet.

Doctors warned him he might never walk again normally, but Colin was determined to beat the odds. He focused not only on walking again, but set himself a goal: to complete a triathlon following his recovery. A mere 18 months after his accident while working as a trader in Chicago, Colin amazed the racing world when he placed first overall amateur at the 2009 Chicago Triathlon.

His victory in triathlon sparked a new path. Colin turned pro, and fulfilled his childhood dream of being a professional athlete. Over the last five years, he has represented the United States in triathlon competitions in 22 countries and on six continents. Meanwhile, the distant peaks still called to him: Colin finally summited Mount Kilimanjaro following a race in East Africa, and climbed Mount Fuji after racing in Japan.

Colin’s whole life has led him to the Explorers Grand Slam. In 2015, in addition to competing on the grueling Ironman circuit, Colin will cross-train in the mountains in preparation for a record-breaking performance. In 2016, Colin will attempt to become the fastest person ever to conquer the Explorers Grand Slam.

Colin’s active, healthy childhood laid the foundation for his success as an elite athlete today. He knows that he was fortunate to be exposed to healthy principles as a youth, and he hopes his record-breaking performance will inspire children to lead healthy lives and pursue their goals. BEYOND 7/2 aims to raise funds and awareness to support programs that work to eliminate childhood obesity and promote active, healthy lifestyles.

“I’ve worked my whole life in pursuit of excellence in sport and health. I am excited to create a visible platform with BEYOND 7/2, to give back and inspire the next generation to dream big and succeed through dedication to healthy life choices.” – Colin
