On May 27, 2016 pro endurance athlete Colin O’Brady completed the Explorers Grand Slam in a world record shattering 139 days. Colin climbed the Seven Summits and skied the last degree to the North and South Poles, all in an effort to raise awareness and funds to inspire active, healthy kids in partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
  • My heart goes out to anyone impacted by the tragedy that unfolded on Mt. Hood yesterday. Having grown up in the shadow of this mountain I’ve spent more time on it than any other peak in the world. This tragedy hits very close to home. The warm winter conditions this year have made for very icy climbing and high rockfall danger. I took this picture last winter in much more favorable conditions on the Hogsback after a foot of fresh snow. Sending love and safe vibes to everyone out there. .

  • With Aconcagua season in full swing the past month I’ve gotten many people asking for my gear list. Unfortunately I never wrote that down, but I did take this picture before packing my bag in Argentina. Congrats to my friend @jordysmilde for summiting South America’s highest peak recently!! .

  • I spend a lot of time on the road these days. I love exploring new places and meeting amazing people. However there will always be a piece of my heart here in Oregon; the place I call home. I’ve dreamed many dreams starring at this view of the Pacific from the deck of my parents house. It’s been a great last few days centering myself back here while dreaming and planning for the amazing adventures that will unfold in 2018. I’m feeling grateful for this moment to catch my breath. The road is calling again...

  • #TBT Climbing into the Death Zone on Mt Everest. There is nothing quite like being up this high...truly breathtaking (pun intended). #Everest #Nepal #Kathmandu #Himalayas

  • #TBT staring out over the endless expanse of Antarctica. I’ve been thinking a lot about the frozen continent lately. In this picture it almost looks as if I am staring out on a blanket of clouds, but rather it is the leaks and valleys of Antarctica the vast majority of which has never had a single human footprint on it. What better place to truly explore?! #Antarctica

  • Nothing like having a Colorado mountain all to yourself at sunrise and skiing down. Still buzzing from my hut trip last week with @squnge and @drjonkedski. The snow may not have been the best, but the adventure was top shelf.

  • Sunrise skin up New York Mountain in Colorado with two amazing friends @squnge and @drjonkedski. We had a great adventure this week at the Polar Star Inn backcountry hut in Colorado. If you’ve never been to the backcountry huts in Colorado I highly recommend it. There are more than 100 huts throughout the state of Colorado that require skiing into during the winter. Good friends, wood stove, wood fired suana and dives into the snow to cool off, endless laughs and fresh tracks in the snow...tough to beat! 📷 @drjonkedski .

  • Today marks a major milestone in my life. 10 years ago today I woke up in this remote hospital in Thailand having been severely burned in a fire. The doctors warned me that I would likely never walk again normally. This tragedy shook me too my core yet also taught me some of life’s greatest lessons. I learned that trauma and pain can sometimes lead to growth especially when you can shift your mindset toward to positive and start working toward it no matter how bleak the current circumstance my seem. Who would have been able to predict that that same scared kid lying in the hospital bed in this picture would go on to become a professional athlete and set two world records? Today I am grateful for all of the people who kept believing in me and urging me to keep fighting for a brighter future. It’s hard to put into words the deep gratitude that I have for both my Mom and David (my brother in law), who literally pulled me from that fire and held me in their arms as I cried out in fear on the other side of the world. They were the first in a long line of people who would go on to love and support me through that journey and over the last ten years. Today I skied and laughed in Telluride with the sun on my face overflowing with gratitude to be able to use these legs to play in the outdoors. Sending love and positivity out to anyone who is going through a hard time right now...believe me no matter the current darkness there is so much light just around the corner. Keep believing in the power of a positive mindset. .

  • The early bird gets the worm. Started the day my favorite way this morning, climbing up on the mountain all alone watching the sunrise, skinning up to the top of the resort in Telluride before the lifts open. All alone enjoying the quiet of the mountain I climbed up 2500 vertical feet in an hour up to 11,500ft on the mountain...feeling that thin mountain air for sure. There isn’t much fresh snow here in Colorado, but ripping down the virgin groomers was still plenty fun. Bluebird and some untouched corduroy is enough to keep a smile on my face for sure. What fun adventures do people have planned for the weekend? .

BIOGRAPHY

Colin O’Brady was born in Olympia, Washington on March 16, 1985. The son of an Eagle Scout, Colin spent his childhood exploring the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest with his family. He learned about healthy living from his father, an organic farmer, and from his mother and stepfather, co-founders of a local, natural foods grocery chain.

Through passion, dedication, and hard work, Colin grew into a youth sports star. He won Oregon State Championships and received national honors in both swimming and soccer. Colin was recruited to swim at Yale University where he swam all four years.

During his time in college, Colin took a leave of absence to pursue a semester-long course with the National Outdoors Leadership School, mountaineering and kayaking in remote Patagonia, Chile. Later, while studying African economic development in college, he traveled to Tanzania, where he caught a glimpse of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. That day, a dream was born: to climb the Seven Summits.

In 2006, Colin graduated from Yale with a BA in economics. The day after graduation, he embarked on a 4000-mile cycling journey from Connecticut to Oregon, with the aim to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity.

Before beginning his career in finance, Colin left to explore the world on a backpacking trip. While in Thailand, Colin suffered a tragic accident and was severely burned in a fire. His injuries covered nearly 25% of his body, primarily damaging his legs and feet.

Doctors warned him he might never walk again normally, but Colin was determined to beat the odds. He focused not only on walking again, but set himself a goal: to complete a triathlon following his recovery. A mere 18 months after his accident while working as a trader in Chicago, Colin amazed the racing world when he placed first overall amateur at the 2009 Chicago Triathlon.

His victory in triathlon sparked a new path. Colin turned pro, and fulfilled his childhood dream of being a professional athlete. Over the last five years, he has represented the United States in triathlon competitions in 22 countries and on six continents. Meanwhile, the distant peaks still called to him: Colin finally summited Mount Kilimanjaro following a race in East Africa, and climbed Mount Fuji after racing in Japan.

Colin’s whole life has led him to the Explorers Grand Slam. In 2015, in addition to competing on the grueling Ironman circuit, Colin will cross-train in the mountains in preparation for a record-breaking performance. In 2016, Colin will attempt to become the fastest person ever to conquer the Explorers Grand Slam.

Colin’s active, healthy childhood laid the foundation for his success as an elite athlete today. He knows that he was fortunate to be exposed to healthy principles as a youth, and he hopes his record-breaking performance will inspire children to lead healthy lives and pursue their goals. BEYOND 7/2 aims to raise funds and awareness to support programs that work to eliminate childhood obesity and promote active, healthy lifestyles.

“I’ve worked my whole life in pursuit of excellence in sport and health. I am excited to create a visible platform with BEYOND 7/2, to give back and inspire the next generation to dream big and succeed through dedication to healthy life choices.” – Colin
