Today, May 27, 2016 at 6pm AKST, Colin Timothy O’Brady broke the Explorers Grand Slam world record in 139 days. The time to beat was 6 months, 11 days (192 days). The clock started ticking on January 10, 2016 at 6:55pm Chilean time when Colin reached the South Pole in #Antarctica and finished tonight when he stood on the summit of North America’s tallest mountain, Denali.
He surprised us all. We knew it was possible he would push for the summit today, but his tracker never went live and we received no communication that he left 14 Camp this morning. With winds of 40mph and gusts up to 80mph, Colin reached the summit against all odds. He and climbing partner Tucker Cunningham were reportedly the only people moving up to the Denali summit today. They are still on the descent, so the climb is far from over.
What an incredible journey! We are so proud of him and looking forward to sharing the photos and video from the Denali summit! In the meantime, we’re wishing Colin a safe and uneventful climb down to sea level. Colin, you’re an inspiration for all of us to #GoBeyond!
